In an interview with a Brazilian media outlet, Gascón stated that there are people trying to harm her in the race for the statuette. According to her statements, this campaign would be driven by Fernanda Torres' team, a Brazilian actress nominated in the same category for her work in 'I'm Still Here'.

“If she wins, great, if I win, great. What I don't like is that there is a social media team working around all these people trying to belittle my work and that of my movie, because that doesn't lead anywhere. To highlight someone's work, you don't need to sink others'.” declared the actress.
Why could Karla Sofía Gascón be in trouble with the Academy and potentially disqualified from the Oscars?
The statements made by the Spanish actress could potentially cause problems on her path to obtaining the Oscar. Her accusations against Fernanda Torres' team have not been proven, which could lead to her behavior being considered as a violation of the Academy's rules.
The Oscar Awards rules stipulate the following: "No public communication by anyone associated with an eligible film attempting to cast a negative light on a competing film will be tolerated."
However, so far, the Academy has not issued an official statement on the case, so Gascón remains in the running for the Best Actress award at the 97th edition of the Academy Awards, to be held at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 2, 2025.
