Eric Adams, the Democratic mayor of New York City, met with Tom Homan, the newly appointed “border czar” by Donald Trump. Both described the meeting as positive, despite their political differences.

"His goal is the same as mine," Adams said at a press conference after the meeting. "We cannot allow dangerous individuals to commit repeated violent acts in our cities across the United States."

On the other hand, Homan said in an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw that he believes the meeting they had "can save lives" and, in turn, he thanked the meeting with the local authority: "I am grateful that the largest city in this country, the largest sanctuary city in this country, is willing to sit at the table and help me with my two biggest priorities: criminals and children," Homan said in the interview with McGraw.
Although he is the new "border czar," Homan also stated that he believes Donald Trump has misconceptions about his deportation plan.
"This is not a racial raid. It's not about military personnel driving through your neighborhood. It is a well-planned operation with a specific objective," stated Homan.
Mass deportation plan, promised by Trump during his campaign
After winning the elections in November against Democrat Kamala Harris, Trump appointed Homan as border czar, one of the first key hirings of his second administration.

Homan is a former acting director of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement and an advocate for hardline border policies. During the first Trump administration, Homan supported the "zero tolerance" policy, which led to thousands of family separations at the border.
Trump made immigration and the border a central issue of his presidential campaign and promised mass deportations.
