INGLEWOOD, California, USA (AP) — Saquon Barkley ran for two long touchdowns of 70 and 72 yards in the second half and finished with an Eagles record of 255 yards in Philadelphia’s seventh consecutive victory over 37-20 over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL Sunday night game.

The running back accumulated the ninth highest amount of yards in a game in NFL history, largely thanks to his huge scoring runs that framed the second half. He started with a 70-yard touchdown sprint on the first play of the third quarter, and added another huge run up the middle with 2:44 left to play.

What records did Saquon Barkley break?

Barkley had 302 total yards, both rushing and receiving, and became the first player in the NFL with two 70-yard TD runs in a game since Maurice Jones-Drew in 2009. Barkley leads the league with 1,392 rushing yards, including seven games of at least 100 yards, a league-leading stat, in his first season with the Eagles.

With an average of 9.8 yards per carry, Barkley shattered the Eagles franchise record of 217 rushing yards set by LeSean McCoy in 2013.

Candidate for Best Offensive Player of 2024?

Saquon Barkley has been one of the big stories of the season. After leaving the New York Giants as a free agent, he signed with the Eagles, rivals in the NFC East Division, for three years and $37.7 million.

Due to his great campaign, Barkley emerges as one of the candidates to receive the MVP award for the season, along with Josh Allen QB of the Bills and Jared Goff QB of the Lions. However, the last running back to win this honor was Adrian Peterson of the Vikings in 2012.

Barkley does appear as the top candidate to become Offensive Player of the Year (OPOY), ahead of Derrick Henry of the Ravens.

All of Barkley's great performances have sparked controversy in New York as the Giants are in the midst of a crisis as one of the worst teams in the NFL.
