Since August 6, Ukrainian troops have seriously impacted Russian territory, especially in the city of Kursk. However, on Wednesday, the 21st, the Russian Ministry reported that the escalation of attacks was felt in the country’s capital.

Specifically, the city of Moscow suffered "one of the most significant" drone offensives by Ukrainian forces since the beginning of the conflict, as also reaffirmed by Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who stated to the press that "11 drones were destroyed, representing one of the most significant attempted attacks ever made".

This is not the first attack suffered by the Russian capital

Moscow is located more than 500 km from the border with Ukraine, however, it is not the first time it has been hit by a Ukrainian drone attack, remembering that during the summer of 2023, some devices were destroyed over the financial district of the capital and in May of that same year, two ships suffered the same fate in the Kremlin , in the heart of the city.

The Russian Ministry of Defense added in its statement that between Tuesday night and Wednesday, a total of 45 drones sent by Ukraine were destroyed by air defense systems over the regions of Moscow (11), Bryansk (23), Belgorod (6), Kaluga (3), and Kursk (2). In addition, a missile was shot down around 10 p.m. on Tuesday in the western part of the Rostov region, bordering Ukraine, as indicated by the regional governor, Vasili Golubev.

Although last week Russia had already warned of retaliations in the coming days, experts in the conflict suggest that the assumption will soon become a reality. Furthermore, it is expected that Vladimir Putin will publicly address the issue in the next few hours.
