Kerr's viral message to Donald Trump
Kerr began his speech with an anecdote, as the Democratic National Convention is being held at the United Center, the stadium of the Chicago Bulls and where the current coach won three NBA titles playing alongside Michael Jordan...
Then the famous coach talked about the need for unity that the United States has and cited as an example the team he recently coached in Paris 2024, with LeBron James and Stephen Curry, among others, which won the gold medal in men's basketball. "I can't think of a better metaphor for what this country is than the way the United States team came together in the Olympics," he said.
Finally, he had a memorable closing by projecting on the night of November 5th for the presidential elections: "Once the results are counted, we can say to Donald Trump: good night," and made the gesture with both hands on the side of his face, just like Curry did after those four consecutive three-pointers in the Olympic final that "put France to sleep."
Kerr's political role
Comments like this one from Steve Kerr do not attract attention in the United States, as they have a high political profile and an active social agenda.
He was not born in the United States, he was born in Lebanon, as his father was a Middle East specialist and president of the American University of Beirut. Malcolm H. Kerr was assassinated in 1984, amidst the civil war between Muslims and Christians. At that time, Steve was 18 years old.
Especially from his position as coach of the Warriors, and in an area like the San Francisco Bay that has a strong political activism, Steve Kerr has been very critical of racism, police brutality, and social inequality in the United States.
His speech after the massacre at Uvalde school in Texas, which occurred in 2022, went around the world when during his team's press conference he declined to talk about basketball and very emotionally asked the legislators of the United States to regulate the possession of weapons: "When are we going to do something?", he exclaimed.
Stephen Curry also supports Kamala Harris
Kerr is not the only one from the Warriors who is showing support for Harris. Recently, Curry said that the country should back the Democratic candidate for the upcoming elections.
"She represents the Bay Area. She has supported us a lot. So I want to give back that energy to her and I am excited to represent our country here," Curry stated.
