Unlike the very high public investment needed to carry out the Olympic Games, all the budget for Los Angeles 2028 will be private investment and it is projected that the cost will be around 6.8 billion, making them the least costly Olympic event since Atlanta 1996.

For reference, Paris 2024 aims not to exceed 10 billion dollars, while the final balance of Tokyo 2020 showed a total expenditure of $13 billion.

Why is the cost of Los Angeles 2028 lower than other Games?
The great advantage of the city of California is that it has a wide and modern infrastructure for professional and college sports, which will allow significant savings in one of the most expensive aspects of any Olympic investment.
In fact, no new stadium will be built in Los Angeles and the investment will be used to adapt the current venues. For example, the modern SoFi Stadium of the NFL's Rams and Chargers, will be the venue for swimming with 35,000 spectators.
The biggest expense at a specific venue will be the 100 million dollars to raise a new floor in the Coliseum, three meters above the current one used by the USC Trojans for their college football games, in order to build the tracks for athletics competitions, a sport that had the same venue at the 1932 and 1984 Olympics.
"It will be the most expensive and probably the most complicated thing we will have to build," said Casey Wasserman, CEO of the Los Angeles Olympic Games Organizing Committee, to the LA Times.
The total estimated infrastructure spending by the Organizing Committee is $1.5 billion, much less than the $4.5 billion allocated in Paris 2024 for the same item. The rest of the budget for Los Angeles 2028 will be for operations, technology, personnel, services, and the opening and closing ceremonies.
It will also not be necessary to build an Olympic Village, as the campuses of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) will be used.
What will be the main venues for Los Angeles 2028?
In addition to athletics at the Coliseum and swimming at the SoFi Stadium, the Crypto.com Arena (home of the NBA's Lakers) stands out for artistic gymnastics and the new Intuit Dome in Inglewood (home of the NBA's Clippers) for basketball.
Soccer will be played at the Rose Bowl and BMO Stadium, while tennis will take place at the Tennis Center in Carson.
Thanks to the new provisions of the International Olympic Committee that provide greater facilities for the organizers of the Games as long as they do not increase the budgets, canoeing and softball will be contested in Oklahoma.
