Unfortunately for fans of SNL and Steve Martin, the renowned actor and comedian has a response for those who were hoping to see him portray Tim Walz on the show, and that response is no.

Martin, who bears a certain resemblance to the governor of Minnesota, with his white hair, glasses, and paternal behavior, joked about the matter in Threads last Tuesday: "I just found out that Tim Walz wants to go on tour with Marty Short."

Why did Steve Martin refuse to play Tim Walz on SNL?
Since Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, chose Tim Walz as her running mate, users on social media began nominating candidates to portray Walz when "Saturday Night Live" returns in the fall, and the most frequent proposal had been Martin.
The producer of "Saturday Night Live", Lorne Michaels, must have been listening, because as soon as Wednesday he called the actor with an offer. However, the comedian politely and immediately refused.
"I wanted to say no and, by the way, he wanted me to say no," Martin told The Times. "I said to him, 'Lorne, I'm not an impressionist. You need someone who can really capture the guy. They chose me because I have gray hair and glasses'."
Maya Rudolph will reprise the role that Harris first played on "SNL" in 2019 during the Democratic presidential race and then when Harris was named Joe Biden's running mate, played by Jim Carrey.
Martin, who will turn 79 next week, was reluctant to take on that commitment. “It’s ongoing,” says Martin. “It’s not like you do it once, get applause, and never do it again. They need a true impressionist to do that. They will find someone really, really good. I would just be suffering.”
