The new television contracts of the NFL and the increase in the salary cap to $255 million for the 2024 season have generated a historic inflation in the salaries of the top figures in football, especially among quarterbacks and receivers. The latest case is that of Trevor Lawrence, a quarterback who renewed for five years and $275 million with the Jaguars.

The agreement for the number one pick in the 2021 Draft and champion with Clemson at the college level includes $142 million fully guaranteed and his average annual of $55 million makes him the highest-paid player in the NFL alongside Joe Burrow, QB of the Bengals. Ian Rapoport from NFL Network was the first to report this news.

Currently, Lawrence is in his rookie contract, with an average salary of $9 million per season.

Is Trevor Lawrence worth all this money?

The new contract will allow the blonde quarterback to surpass in salary Jared Goff of the Lions ($53 million per year), Justin Herbert of the Chargers ($52.5 million), Lamar Jackson of the Ravens ($52 million), Jalen Hurts of the Eagles ($51 million) and even Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs ($45 million).

But in three seasons as a professional in the NFL, Lawrence has not proven to be better than those players. Not to mention that Mahomes is in a different category, but for example Joe Burrow, who was the first overall pick in the 2020 Draft, already holds the title of the American Conference in 2021 which allowed him to compete in the Super Bowl of that season.

Jalen Hurts, also from the 2020 draft class (second round pick), also led his team to a Super Bowl.

What are Lawrence's statistics?

Lawrence, on the other hand, only has the 2022 season to highlight, where he led the Jaguars to the divisional round in the AFC playoffs. In 2021, his rookie year, he only won three games, and in 2023 Jacksonville had a record of 9-8. Last season, Lawrence threw for a total of 4,016 yards, with 21 touchdowns, 14 interceptions, and a rating of 88.5 (21st among NFL quarterbacks).

Those numbers reflect that the Jacksonville team took a risk and that in 2024, with a good offensive coach like Doug Pederson by his side, Lawrence has to prove the dollars and trust that were placed on him.
