“I told yall I’ll never let him leave”: Patrick Mahomes celebrates Travis Kelce’s renewal with the Chiefs

Taylor Swift's partner will become the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Any option of retiring any time soon was ruled out, after Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement to restructure his contract until the end of the 2025 season, when the tight end will be 36 years old.

Kelce’s current contract was paying him an average of 14 million dollars annually. The new contract will increse his salary, up to 17.1 million dollars per year, making Taylor Swift’s boyfriend the highest-paid tight end in the NFL.

Kelce surpasses Darren Weller of the Giants, who has a $17 million contract with the Giants.

What did Patrick Mahomes say about Travis Kelce's renewal?

The renowned Chiefs quarterback has forged a great friendship with Kelce, which has extended to their partners, Brittany Mahomes and Taylor Swift. This is also reflected on the field, as the veteran tight end has become Mahomes' favorite target.

Kelce is a product of the University of Cincinnati and was selected by the Chiefs in 2013, in the third round of that year's Draft. Although he quickly began to stand out in his position, he did not become one of the best tight ends until Mahomes arrived in 2017. Since the 2018 season, the Kansas City team has always reached at least the final of the American Conference and has won three Super Bowls.

That’s why as soon as the news of the renewal was reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Patrick Mahomes wrote on his X account: I told yall I’ll never let him leave!! Congrats my guy!

Travis Kelce is the biggest celebrity in the NFL

Since October 2023, everything Travis Kelce does matters much more beyond the sports media in the United States. That month, and in a game against the Chicago Bears, Taylor Swift appeared in the Kelce family box at Arrowhead Stadium, the Chiefs' stadium.

During the Chiefs' triumphs in the AFC Championship game and in the last Super Bowl against the 49ers, Taylor went down to the field to celebrate with Travis in front of all the cameras. The relationship between Swift and Kelce has brought American football closer to a young and female audience, which could explain the record audience of the last Super Bowl: 123 million people.

In addition to that, "New Heights", Travis' program with his brother Jason (who recently announced his retirement from the league), is highly listened to and always makes headlines in the US media.
